roguesincerity (Alvi Abd) is an Indonesia-based visual artist and graphic designer. Debuting his NFT work in Indonesia’s first hybrid art exhibition NFT Art Prized Moments Jakarta 2022. Inspired by mythology and pop culture, his art invites us to the erratic world of monsters and modern cultures. We spoke to him about his style, inspirations and NFTs.

How would you describe your style ?

Futuristic, emotional I would describe my style as a figurative art that sometimes birthed meaning through bits of symbolism.

Who are your creative inspirations?

I was inspired by a lot of artists, but the most prominent ones are Diego Rivera, Agus Suwage and I Nyoman Masriadi. Their work really impacted me in a lot of ways from back when I was still a student.

SANKTUARY

How does mythology feature in your work?

I think the mythology part is an influence I had since I was as small as a 6th grader. My dad used to watch a lot of greek/roman epic movies and I picked it up from when I was watching it with him. Although I’m not that fanatic sort of say, I subconciously had that influence in me, and now it bleeds into my work of art. Since a lot of my work revolves around my relationship with the things I interacted and experienced with.

What excites you about NFTs?

NFT is an interesting medium for me, I was able to express freely about my art through it, and the community surrounding it is truly a blessing for any artists such as myself, the culture that was built around it created a really safe environment for anyone to create as they like. And a lot of interesting experiments from artists were conceived because of it. Not to mention now artists don’t need to do all the nitty gritty stuff to get collector exposure that we can just directly interacting with them is already an exciting concept for artists. So the thing that excites me the most is the direction of the culture that the NFT space created moving forward.

I CAN COPE WITH THIS

What  work are you proudest of and why?

I’m proud of all my work to be honest. But if there’s one work that have the most thing to say out of it I think it was “YOU USE TIME : TIME USE YOU“ it was one of my older work, something about the thought behind the work was just so applicable to any experience. It tells about our relationship with time, how to be present in the moment that you would think whether are you using your time or time is using you, symbolized in the figure that is being used as a sundial.
